Comments about IBM ThinkCentre S50 8183 PC - Intel Pentium 4 2.8Ghz:

I have a pretty good size home network with both Macs and PC but the only one I had that with Ubuntu on it was my dual booting PC laptop until now. I decided to keep Ubuntu on this machine so a can get to know it a little better, and let me say, I'm pretty impressed! I have 1.25GB of memory loaded up in it and I can't believe how fast this is with the 2.8 hyper-threading processor.

Now I'm not a gamer and just a casual techie but I have had a lot of fun with this old machine!

If I had to come up with a con for this purchase it would probably be that I had to remove some sticker and tape residue, but that's no biggie!

Comments about IBM ThinkCentre S50 8183 PC - Intel Pentium 4 2.8Ghz:

I ordered two of these since it was the same price as buying the extended warranty. The writeup on this computer still says that it has 1G of RAM though they have updated the "Specs" to read reflect the 512M DDR 333 that was shipped with both. (single card, so I pulled the second one and put it in the first computer)
The Good:
1) Both computers shipped with Ubuntu loaded (just said no-OS when I ordered)
2) These are heavy, tool-less cases that make and changes easy.
3) First computer was online in three minutes and running fast and quiet, no problems!
The Bad(but not too bad):
1) Didn't come with the 1G RAM I had hoped for.
2) Only came with 30G hard dives
3) Second computer was loaded with Ubuntu but would not boot. Had too pry the Cd-ROM open. (Once I loaded Puppy Linux it all seamed to work OK, need to play with Grub)
4) Second computer also has noisy CPU fan.

Still, For the price you can't go wrong I got two computers (or one with lots of spare parts) with Internet capability for under $100.
